September 1752

Apparently this is real.

On September 1752, our calender lost 11 days.


It is said that on this day, England shifted from the Roman Julian Calender to the Gregory calender (i.e. the calender we are using now).

A Julian year is 11 days longer than a Gregorian year. So the king ordered 11 days to be wiped off.

New Year was in April according to Julian date. Many people were not happy or contented to give up the old customs to celebrate New Year on April. To counter measure that, the King finally issued a royal dictum; which stated that those who celebrated 1st April as the new year's day would be labelled as fools. From then on, 1st April became April Fool's Day. 

How true is that? I don't know. 

But the part where September 1752 had 11 days wiped off is definitely real.

Bill Gates and Philanthropy

Now Bill Gates isn't a stranger's name at all. But what he is or what he wants to do might not be something we are aware of.

We know that for starters, he was once the richest man on the planet. But what a person is he? What is his mission now?

If you know him at a more comprehensive stage, you'd know that he is a philanthropist - giving back to the society.

What I've learned or further realized is:

He is living a life that I want - financially sound and yet trying to help the society and world as much as he could.

He is indeed, one of the living heroes of mankind, and deserves to be honored too.

The Coolidge Effect

This particular effect, of all the possible "lists of effect" is easy to understand and requires no extra explanation.

The Coolidge Effect is defined as the effect when a mammalian species, particularly a male exhibit renewed sexual desire when introduced to a newer female.

So in a nutshell, I guess this is why guys tend to have affair more than the women.

Backdate 15.11.2013: The Streisand Effect

I've learned what was the Streisand Effect yesterday.

The Streisand Effect, in my own words means a situation, when the more you suppress or prevent the spread of a news or information, the faster it gets spread.

The Streisand Effect was coined because Babara Streisand tried to suppress photos of her Malibu residence. But the more she tried the more wide spread her photos were.

Back here in Malaysia, we have our own Streisand effect too.

Ernest Zacharevic, a Lithuanian street artist started with this controversial art.



It certainly raised some eyebrows, especially the government. Why? Because this is Malaysia.

Some Malaysians tried to foil the attempt of the local municipal by adding a policeman.







But too bad, our local municipal are too immature to see things on a very shallow perspective.

But then, here comes the Streisand Effect, which has now propelled Malaysia into the international limelight. I hope now you understand what a Streisand effect is, with a real life local situation in Bolehland.
